Kratos was a Spartan general and servant of Ares (just as Astaroth was in the Soul series), and Kratos later rebelled against his master and destroyed him using Pandora's Box. Upon defeating Ares, he became the new God of War. Later, Kratos started the second Great War between the Titans and the Olympians, as seen in the end of God of War II shouting "Zeus, your son has returned. I BRING THE DESTRUCTION OF OLYMPUS!!!"
